Rocket Delivery Available in Taiwan

Coupang’s quick commerce service app for Taiwanese consumers

Coupang will start selling Korean products via its superfast "Rocket Delivery" service in Taiwan from April 25. The company has been conducting a pilot project for a superfast delivery of fresh food and daily necessities to a limited area in Taiwan. It is Coupang’s first service targeting a wide area outside Korea.

Coupang recently announced its plans to sell products in Taiwan through Rocket Delivery services. It will sell Korean products to Taiwanese customers in the form of cross-border purchases beginning from April 25. It plans to open the service in Taiwan and expand sales area down the road.

Overseas sales will be carried out in the same way as Rocket-Speed Direct Purchase in Korea, so that products sold in Korea can be purchased from Coupang’s Taiwanese site. Their selling prices are expected to be the same as their Korean prices, based on announced exchange rates.

Coupang entered Japan and Taiwan for the first time 2021 and is pumping up its efforts for overseas expansion. After a quick commerce test business in Tokyo, Japan in June of 2021, Coupang opened a store in Taiwan, starting its services in July. However, as a quick commerce service starts deliveries of daily necessities and fresh food as soon as consumers place an order and completes it in a short period of time between 30 minutes and 2 hours, it forced Coupang to provide its services to a small limited area near the store.

Coupang chose Taiwan as the first overseas location for its rocket-speed deliveries because of its high population density and its environment suitable for the e-commerce business.

Coupang is expected to actively expand its overseas business in the future. Previously, in June 2021, Coupang founder Kim Bum-suk announced that he would focus on global management by resigning as chairman and a registered director of Coupang Korea and concentrating on the post of the CEO and chairman of the board of directors at Coupang, Inc.
