Tamil Nadu in India Requests Samsung to Build Chip Plant

Samsung Electronics’ smartphone plant in Bac Ninh, Vietnam

The Da Nang government and Samsung Electronics Vietnam had a meeting and the former asked for investment on April 1.

At the end of last year, Samsung Electronics’ investment in Vietnam reached US$1.8 billion. The company is currently the largest foreign investor in Vietnam and has six plants and R&D centers there.

Recently, the government of Tamil Nadu in India also asked Samsung Electronics to build a semiconductor manufacturing plant, proposing various incentives in terms of production, infrastructure, tariff, etc.

According to industry sources, Samsung Electronics’ new plants in Da Nang and Tamil Nadu are rather unlikely for now as the company is making large facility investments in Pyeongtaek, South Korea and Taylor, Texas. Samsung Electronics said that everything is still up in the air as to the requests from Da Nang and Tamil Nadu.
