ASML CEO Peter Wennink visited Hwaseong City and met with Mayor Seo Cheol-mo on April 4.

The Dutch company is planning to open engineer training and manufacturing centers in the city in 2025. The purpose of the centers is to develop and supply extreme ultraviolet (EUV) and deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography systems, and the company is planning to invest 240 billion won there. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the city and the company signed their investment agreement to that end in November last year.

ASML is the sole supplier of EUV lithography equipment and its clients include a number of global semiconductor manufacturers, ranging from Samsung Electronics to TSMC and Intel. EUV lithography is to print a circuit on a wafer and its importance is increasing rapidly with the development of semiconductor technologies.

Recently, South Korean President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte agreed on further bilateral cooperation in the semiconductor industry during their first phone conversation.
