Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin visited Lotte World Tower and Lotte World Mall without advance notice on Feb. 9. The Lotte Group leader explained that he did so in order to conduct safety checks and cheer up the employees of the stores in the mall, who may be down from the decrease in the number of visitors.

Regarding the visit, Shin said, “I am visiting once a week to check safety. I will also keep visiting there every week without any advance notice. I will always keep in mind that safety is the most important, and always check the building's safety.”

Regarding the measures for store owners’ damages, Shin said, “In order to normalize business, we will have a promotion event to celebrate the 100th day of opening. Once the cinema and the aquarium are normalized, sales will go up. Also, February is a month in which sales are generally the lowest in the year. From March, the situation will be better.”

For the plan to reopen the aquarium and the cinema, he said that he will let the city of Seoul to decide and actively cooperate.

Regarding the poor performance of the group last year, Shin said, “Since the price of oil dropped sharply, the economic situation will get better in the second half of the year. Economic growth can reach up to four percent, surpassing the estimated growth rate of the government.”

He also said, “The construction of the 100th floor of the Lotte World Tower will start from March 14. We don’t have any plan to build higher than 123 floors, even though Hyundai Motor Group is planning to build a higher building than ours.”
