Unexpected Reputation

Samsung Electronics ranked the 3rd most reputable company in the U.S. according to the 16th annual Harris Poll Reputation Quotient study published on Feb. 4. The Korean tech giant was the only non-U.S. company in the top 10.

New York-based grocer Wegmans Food Markets was in the top spot, followed by Amazon.

Costco, Johnson & Johnson, Kraft Foods, L.L. Bean, Publix Supermarkets, Apple, and Google were also in the top 10.

Harris Polls was conducted online targeting 27,278 U.S. respondents, and companies were rated on 20 characteristics of their reputation in six categories: Emotional Appeal, Financial Performance, Products & Services, Social Responsibility, Vision & Leadership, and Workplace Environment.

Samsung was in the top 5 in Vision & Leadership, Emotional Appeal, Products & Services, and Financial Performance, which put the firm into third place.

The Korean company's ranking edged up by 4 places from 7th in 2014 to 3rd in 2015, continuing an upward trend of four consecutive years.

An industry source said, “Samsung's rise in the reputation rankings can be ascribed to brand recognition and product quality. Its social contribution activities around the world are another factor.”
