LS Cable & System demonstrated its solution capabilities by supplying a variety of solutions including cutting-edge IT, Smart Grid, Wi-Fi, and LED, instead of just electrical cables, to Kazakhstan

LS Cable & System (President Koo Cha-Yol) has received a series of orders for major projects in Kazakhstan, getting the green light for the entrance into new markets. The company revealed that it received an order for power cables worth approximately US$2.4 million (approximately 28 billion won) from Kazakhstan’s national electrical company Samruk Energy.

The project is designed to solve a shortage of electrical power due to the industrial and urban development in the capital, Almaty. LS Cable & System will supply ultra-high voltage power cable measuring 127 km and cable joints until August 2012 along with providing technical advices.

By winning the project, LS Cable & System received the recognition of having superior technology and construction ability to the competitors.

The company also won a contract to remodel the “Intelligent Pavilion,” the IT exhibit hall of the presidential palace. The project is for the construction of an exhibit hall where local youth will be taught cutting edge IT technologies. The project is worth US$ 8.5 million (approximately 9.3 billion won), the order of which was placed by the first Kazakhstan President's welfare foundation. LS Cable & System earned a good reputation by demonstrating numerous solutions such as the cutting-edge IT, Smart Grid, Wi-Fi, and LED instead of just electrical cables.

The top notch solution technologies will be applied to the exhibition hall with the dimension of four floors and 1,876㎡ according to themes of "A Window of Kazakhstan," "A Box of Dream Containing Future Myself," and "A Tree of Light Opening New Future."

LS Cable and System said the winning of overseas IT complex project was the first of its kind for the company, adding that the exhibition hall would be establishing a landmark by being equipped with cutting-edge solutions inside and LED lamps outside.

Recently, LS Cable & System launched another overseas subsidiary. The company announced on February 20 that it starts the development of lightweight power cables in tandem with Mercury Cable & Energy, an America power line material manufacturer.

The new cable is characterized by being 15% lighter than existing products yet having a transmission capacity twice as large. It is going to be developed before the end of this year and then supplied to China, India, Vietnam and so forth on a sole distribution basis. The exclusive sale contract between the two is effective for two years and open to extension.

The weight reduction and capacity expansion is achieved by replacing the aluminum wire supports with carbon composites. The transmission cables are installed between power stations and substations, propped up mainly by pylons.

“Cooperation with Mercury will enhance our global business by helping us make inroads into more overseas markets,” said LS senior managing director Yun Jae-in, adding, “Building on the collaboration, we’ll present various top-quality products in those countries planning on power grid establishment, transmission capacity expansion, etc.”

Founded in 2006, the American company is one of the most leading and technologically superior manufacturers of cable materials. According to its policy, each of its partners is given exclusive distributorship in the regional markets they do business in.
