Global Market Share

The Hyundai Motor Group sold 7.712 million cars around the world in 2014, recording 4.7 percent growth from a year ago.

The sales volume is equivalent to 8.8 percent of the global demand of 87.166 million estimated by LMC Automotive. The group’s global market share remained at 8.8 percent for three years in a row after having jumped from 8.0 percent to 8.6 percent between 2010 and 2011.

“Last year, Japanese companies launched aggressive marketing campaigns on the back of the weak yen, while we added no manufacturing facilities with the exception of the third plant in China,” Hyundai explained, adding, “It seems fair to say that we fared pretty well under the circumstances.”

Still, Hyundai’s global market share is forecast to show negative growth this year, with no new plants scheduled to be put into operation. Its sales target for this year is just 2.5 percent more than that for 2014, too.

The group’s new factories in Mexico and China are planned to start their operations in 2016.
