Strengthening Printer Business

Samsung Electronics has bought Simpress, the largest printing solution provider in Brazil.

On Jan. 30 (local time), the Korean tech giant purchased a 100 percent stake in Simpress from Gavea Investimentos, a private equity firm affiliated with JP Morgan based in Brazil.

Samsung, which is competing with Canon and HP, is beefing up its B2B business in the printing market. The acquisition is part of its strategy to strengthen the B2B market. Simpress is supplying printers to companies, or financial or pubic institutions in the country.

The Korean firm took over California-based HVAC product supplier Quietside in August of last year, and PrinterOn, a mobile printing solution provider based in Canada, the following month.

The printing business is a core category of the office business. It can consistently generate profits, as product management and part supply continue, rather than finishing by selling products.

Samsung's printing solution unit released a smartphone printer and an NFC-enabled printer in 2014. It also introduced an Android OS-based all-in-one printer for corporations.

The NFC-enabled printer was upgraded to suit the B2B market. It began to be sold in the latter half of last year through three major distribution channels for office supplies in the U.S.
