A 4DX theater opened in London, the U.K. 4DX is a new latest motion picture technology hoping to to lead the global film market. Along with the UK cinema chain Cineworld, CJ 4DPLEX, a subsidiary of CJ CGV, launched the 4DX screen in the Cineworld Milton Keynes multiplex in London on Jan. 29.

In Eastern Europe, there are 4DX cinemas in Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, and Croatia. However, this is the first cinema with 4DX screens in Western Europe.

Cineworld Milton Keynes is a multiplex with a 16-screen cinema in the cultural complex center, Xcape. Xcape is a large cultural complex center containing various entertainment facilities, including shops, restaurants, an indoor ski slope and leisure facilities like sky diving. Since it opened in 2000, thousands of people visit every day. It has become a local landmark.

This coming March, the Western European second cinema with 4DX screens will open in Switzerland, and the company is planning to begin expanding negotiations with other theater operators in Europe.

Choi Byung-hwan, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX, said, “It is meaningful because we opened up the possibilities to open additional cinemas with 4DX technology by passing on our tips for the 4DX cinema's operation, which we had accumulated over the years, with the expansion of our partnership with Cineworld, the biggest cinema chain in Europe.”

Meanwhile, as cinemas with 4DX screens opened in Los Angeles, U.S., the center of the global film industry, in Mumbai, India, and in the U.K. this time, the technology is getting attention as one to lead cinemas in the future. Currently, there are 150 4DX cinemas in 30 countries, including South Korea.
