Vehicles equipped with Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB) Systems will get extra points in safety evaluations in the U.S., which is good news for the Mando Corporation, a Korean supplier of automobile parts, that produces them.

According to the industry on Jan. 28, the U.S. government has recently decided to give additional points in safety evaluations to vehicles equipped with the AEB systems for strengthening the safety standards of newly-manufactured vehicles on the market.

An AEB system is an autonomous safety system which helps to avoid accidents by identifying critical situations early through radar and camera, and warning the driver. If no action is taken by the driver and a collision is expected, the system will then apply emergency brakes.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) improved the evaluation programs of new vehicles in order to improve vehicle safety. It decided to include whether or not the vehicle is equipped with an AEB system to get top 5-star ratings.

Vehicles are highly likely to be required to have an AEB system in the future. In other words, automobile parts companies, which produce braking systems with AEB, will benefit from the decision.

Mando, Germany’s Continental Corp., and Italy’s Brembo produce the braking systems. Mando developed the AEB system in 2013 and is installing the system in Hyundai’s new Genesis and Kia Motors’ new K9. Last year, the Genesis earned the highest ratings in front crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
