Reviving KOSDAQ Market

 

On Jan. 28, the KOSDAQ, Korea’s secondary stock trading board, hit record levels of market capitalization as its index hit a record high for the year at the same time.

According to Korea Exchange, the total market capitalization of the KOSDAQ reached 157.4 trillion won (US$145.35 billion) that day. As the KOSDAQ index has showed a suddenly-rising tendency this year, marking the highest-ever in six years and seven months, its market capitalization is also rising.

The increase of market capitalization has also showed an all-time high compared with last month.

The market capitalization of the KOSDAQ so far this month (Jan. 2 to 28) increased by 14.3 trillion won (US$13.21 billion) from last month. The figure is the highest on record since its previous high of 13.4 trillion won (US$12.37 billion) in November 2005.

On the same day, the KOSDAQ also marked the highest-ever in six years and seven months and hit a record high for the year, closing at 594.39.

The figure also broke a record of 590.34 two days ago (Jan. 26), which was the previous highest this year.
