To Secure Technical Talent

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are moving to abolish the retirement age for outstanding employees.

Samsung Electronics has decided to implement a senior track system starting 2022 to allow outstanding employees to continue to work after their retirement age. The company is fleshing out the plan.

Earlier, Samsung Electronics announced that it will introduce the system to preemptively respond to changes in the business environment, such as population aging and population cliffs, through a reform of the personnel management system. It intends to create a culture where accumulated expertise and experiences are respected. The company is currently preparing specific implementation guidelines.

SK Hynix introduced the Honored Engineer (HE) system in December 2018, which allows excellent technology experts to continue working even after the retirement age of 60. The system produced the first expert in 2020.

In addition, SK Hynix plans to train engineers not subject to the retirement age through an in-house university. At SK Hynix University (SKHU), an in-house university established in 2017, retired executives become SKHU faculty members and transfer their knowledge to workers.

Meanwhile, the government announced on Feb. 10 that it will introduce a continuous employment system for senior citizens so that they can work after the retirement age of 60. As it takes time to legislate the extension of the retirement age, the government will open the way for the elderly to work even after their retirement age in a roundabout way.
