Gearing up for 6G Network Development

The Ministry of Science and ICT is working on 6G network development strategies with mobile operators and equipment makers.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on Jan. 25 that it is working on next-generation network development strategies together with SK Telecom, KT, LG U+, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.

The strategies are expected to cover the development and innovation of 5G backbone and 6G networks, the Internet of Things and satellite communication.

“Future media services will be characterized by a blurry boundary between the virtual world and reality and the six degrees of freedom,” the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute pointed out, adding, “These are impossible without 5G evolutions, 6G equipment and ultra-low end-to-end latency.”

Regarding the strategies, Samsung Electronics is expanding its 5G markets in North America, Europe and Asia and is planning to come up with unique solutions so that the role of networks can be expanded in people’s daily lives as well as various industries.
