To Create Synergies

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are expanding their cooperation from the home appliance sector to automotive electronics.

Samsung Electronics is planning to unveil QD-OLED TV models equipped with a quantum dot (QD) display at CES 2022, which will kick off in Las Vegas on Jan. 5 2022.

Apart from QD-OLED TVs, Samsung Electronics is expected to receive white-OLED panels from LG Display to start producing OLED TVs. Analysts expect Samsung Electronics to receive about 2 million OLED panels from LG Display. This will boost Samsung's procurement of TV panels, including LCD panels, from LG Display, 3 trillion won a year.

The two companies are also collaborating in automotive electronics. LG Electronics’ infotainment systems for Volkswagen's electric vehicles use Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor Exynos Auto V7. The chip features a neural network processing unit (NPU) for artificial intelligence operations and can perform virtual assistant services and voice, face and motion recognition functions. It also enables users to enjoy music, movies, and games in vehicles.

As demand for electric vehicles will increase in the future, cooperation between the two companies is expected to expand further.
