Cho Seong-jin, CEO of the Home Appliance Unit of LG Electronics, made his first public appearance after the company’s launch of its current H&A unit. The new unit combines the existing Home Appliances (HA) unit of washing machines and vacuum cleaners and Air Conditioning & Energy Solutions (AE) unit of air conditioners. He showed his confidence by saying, “The company will lead the global market as comprehensive home solutions.”

Cho explained the background of the unit consolidation, citing, “As the era of the Internet of Things ushered in, it is more efficient to create a synergy effect by linking between its units rather than competing for a single component. LG will try to provide total home solutions for consumers.”

LG Electronics unveiled its first brand-new Twin Washing System at CES this year, drawing attention from foreign buyers. It became the talk of the show, as foreign press also paid attention to the system.

The Twin washing machine, which will be launched with the name of the Tromm Plus in Korea and the Sidekick in the U.S., uses ideas collected from washing machine research institutes in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and India for 5 years.

Cho said, “While the company is competing with Samsung and Whirlpool in the refrigerator market, and is also in close competition with Whirlpool in the washing machine market in North America, the market dominance of LG Electronics rose rapidly last year.”

Regarding his alleged involvement in damaging Samsung’s washing machines during the IFA electronics trade show last year, Cho said, “It is not appropriate to comment on the ongoing investigation. I would like to make a sincere apology for having caused public concerns. I will repay you by running the business successfully.”

However, regarding Samsung’s new washing machine dubbed the Active Wash, Cho said, “Out of six elements for washing machines, which are washing, rinsing, spin-drying, drying, ironing, and storing, only three elements of washing, rinsing, and spin-drying are automated.”
