Samsung Electronics has recently launched a robot business team to promote commercialization of home robots in earnest. It plans to roll out products as soon as possible, and large-scale investments in related businesses are also expected.

The company has recently upgraded a task force for robot commercialization, which has remained an unofficial unit, to an official organization and dubbed it the Robot Business Team.

Samsung Electronics has introduced various robot technologies on the international stage. Samsung Bot Care, a care service robot, was introduced at CES 2019, and Samsung Bot Handy, a home service robot that helps with housework, was introduced in January 2021. These two robot projects were carried out by the unofficial task force.

Samsung Electronics is expected to launch a home robot that can be used in connection with smartphones and household appliances. Currently, it is developing Samsung Bot Serving, a robot for shopping malls and restaurants, Samsung Bot Guide, a customer response robot, and a gait enhancing & motivating system (GEMS).

The company is expected to invest actively in the robot sector and promote mergers and acquisitions. Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong said in August that the company would invest 240 trillion won in future technologies over the next three years. Lee’s investment targets were robots, system semiconductors, biotechnology, next-generation telecommunications and artificial intelligence (AI).
