George Mason University Korea (Mason Korea) has officially partnered with OnHappy, Incheon’s first international educational development NGO under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Having received special consultation status with the U.N. Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2017, the NGO aims to improve the quality of education by providing educational programs to underserved communities in Korea and abroad.

At the ceremony held on Dec. 10, Mason Korea Campus Dean Robert Matz signed an MOU with OnHappy chairman Bae In-sik to collaborate on providing internships, experiential learning, and overseas volunteer work opportunities for students. In addition, the two institutions agreed to cooperate on information sharing such as educational programs and professional development.

"We are pleased to partner with OnHappy to expand educational opportunities for our students," said Dean Matz, adding, “We look forward to active collaboration with OnHappy to provide diverse opportunities for exchange and nurturing future talent.”

"OnHappy is pleased to sign a business agreement with a well-known U.S. university located in Korea," said Bae In-sik, chairman of OnHappy, adding, "This agreement will allow OnHappy and Mason Korea to better collaborate on efforts to improve the quality of future education in Incheon."

Mason Korea students Im Yang-hyun (junior, Conflict Analysis and Resolution major) and Lim Jae-young (junior, Global Affairs major), who have played a key role in this partnership development as interns at OnHappy, also attended the ceremony. "We are pursuing our goals of learning how to peacefully resolve conflicts between people through our experience at OnHappy," Im said.
