Samsung Electronics announced on Jan. 1 that it will unveil Tizen smart TVs at CES 2015 scheduled for Jan. 6-9 in Las Vegas. The company is planning to load the operating system on every smart TV it releases this year. The idea is to take the initiative in the Internet of Things (IoT) market and concentrate on smart home technology as one of its new growth drivers.

According to Samsung Electronics, the Tizen smart TV has an improved user interface for better operability and is better linked to mobile devices for an enhanced user experience. When the Bluetooth is on, the TV can connect to a smartphone and the digital content of the phone can be shared with just one click. Also, the TV can be turned on at a predetermined time by setting an alarm on the phone. Finally time, weather, and schedule information on the handset can be viewed on the TV.

In the meantime, Samsung Electronics topped the mobile phone manufacturer segment of the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) for 2014. It scored 81 points and beat Apple by a margin of two points. Samsung added five points and climbed two notches from a year ago, while Apple lost two points and fell one notch.

Samsung Electronics has topped the list four times since 2004 but remained at the second or third place since 2011, when smartphones began to become popular in earnest. Apple has participated in the survey since 2012, and lost the top spot for the first time in 2014.
