Galaxy A Series Drive Market Share Expansion

Samsung Electronics’ share of the Southeast Asian smartphone market increased 4 percentage points to 23 percent in the third quarter of this year.

Market research firm Counterpoint Research said on Dec. 8 that Samsung Electronics’ Southeast Asian smartphone market share was 23 percent in the third quarter of this year.

The market share rose 4 percentage points in one year and the company was followed by Oppo (19 percent), Xiaomi (16 percent), Vivo (16 percent) and Realme (13 percent).

“Samsung Electronics increased its shipments by resuming production in Vietnam,” the firm explained, adding, “These days, the popularity of Galaxy A, S21 and Z Flip 3 is increasing fast.”

In the third quarter of this year, the Southeast Asian smartphone market contracted by 11 percent year on year due to component shortages and COVID-19. Specifically, the Vietnamese, Thai, Philippine and Indonesian markets contracted 29 percent, 14 percent, 9 percent and 6 percent, respectively.
