Government Messenger

The Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs announced on Dec. 28 that it will put Barotalk into test operation from Dec. 30.

The mobile messenger for business use developed by the Ministry is to replace privately-developed messengers such as KakaoTalk and Telegram. From the second half of next year, government employees cannot use such messengers when transmitting and receiving business data or reports.

Barotalk can be used only by government employees. Using government public key infrastructure (GPKI), the communication servers are encoded to protect personal information and conversation content. When a mobile device using the messenger is lost, the content can be removed by canceling the membership on the Web.

The test operation will continue until the end of March next year. From the following month, Barotalk will be put to use in all administrative agencies with a grace period of three months.
