Aim to Cultivate 500 Engineers over 5 Years from 2022

KAIST and Samsung Electronics will foster 500 semiconductor engineers for five years from 2022.

The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Samsung Electronics have joined hands to foster competent semiconductor engineers. They plan to grow about 500 semiconductor engineers for five years beginning from next year.

The two organizations signed an agreement to establish a semiconductor system engineering department, which is a hiring contract-based department, at Samsung Electronics’ Hwaseong Campus on Nov. 25.

In 2022 and 2023, 50 students each will be selected among KAIST freshmen. They will be able to enter the semiconductor system engineering department when they become sophomores. About 100 new students will be selected every year from 2023 to 2026 for the department.

All students will receive special scholarships. Their curriculum consists of basic semiconductor systems, basic and in-depth courses and field experience and on the job training.

KAIST and Samsung Electronics will also help students adapt themselves to the field faster through activities such as plant tours, internships, and joint workshops. They plan to conduct new types of classes that combine lectures, experiments and two-way discussions and foster students as next-generation convergence leaders of Samsung Electronics by offering them courses on humanities and social education as well.
