Unveils Vision and Technology Roadmap at Developer Conference

Hyundai Motor Group held HMG Developer Conference from Nov. 10-11.

Hyundai Motor Group unveiled its vision to become a smart mobility group and the current status of future technology development at the HMG Developer Conference on Nov. 10.

Jang Woong-joon, executive director of the R&D headquarters' autonomous driving division, introduced smart mobility device technology in his keynote. "We plan to apply Level 3 autonomous driving technology next year," Jang said. Hyundai Motor is expected to apply Level 3 autonomous driving technology to the new Genesis G90 model that will be launched next year.

Jang explained that apart from Level 3 technology, Hyundai Motor will study and apply Level 4 autonomous driving technology to various vehicles. "Currently, we are developing Nexo-based Robotaxi that can run nicely in a complex urban environment," Jang said. "We plan to apply the system to the recently released IONIQ 5 and conduct a pilot service in Seoul next year."

Jang added that the automaker was developing the Remote Smart Parking Assistance (RSPA) system that will help drivers park their cars in narrow places to automatically enable valet parking in the future.

"The IONIQ 5 Robotaxi is set to be commercialized in 2023 with Level 4 autonomous driving technology, which is the most advanced at the moment," said Choo Kyo-woong, executive director of the R&D Headquarters. "We are also stepping up efforts to secure core technologies such as aircraft and flight control software in order to develop UAM machines."
