Scope of Data Submission Not Fixed Yet

U.S. President Joe Biden at a White House meeting in April with semiconductor industry CEOs

U.S. President Joe Biden recently told global semiconductor companies to submit their sensitive information and data and the deadline is just six days away.  Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix will reportedly accept the demand while not giving trade secrets and confidential information.

Those secrets and confidential information are likely to include client, sales and production capacity data, which may affect market transactions and prices. Leakage of such data may result in serious repercussions with competition already intense in the global semiconductor industry.

The South Korean government and the two companies are working together to minimize the leakage. “Nothing has been fixed yet as to the scope of submission,” the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association explained, adding, “The companies are still dividing their information and data while taking their confidentiality agreements and domestic laws into account.”
