Samsung Electronics is found to be involved in the largest number of patent infringement lawsuits in the United States.

According to Unified Patents, Samsung Electronics was the most frequently found company on a defendant list in patent infringement lawsuits filed with U.S. district courts in the first three quarters of this year.

Unified Patents is a 200-plus international membership organization that seeks to improve patent quality and deter unsubstantiated or invalid patent assertions in defined technology sectors.

Samsung Electronics has been sued for patent infringement a total of 58 times in 2021. This is twice as many as those of Apple (29 cases), which was ranked second. Apple was followed by Google (26 cases), LG Electronics (23 cases) and Amazon (20 cases).

Last year, Samsung Electronics came in third with 36 patent infringement cases after Google (42 cases) and Microsoft (39 cases). However, the number of lawsuits filed against the company increased 61.1 percent on year in the first three quarters of this year. In particular, the number of lawsuits against Samsung Electronics is expected to increase further if lawsuits filed with the International Trade Commission (ITC) or the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) are added.
