Samsung Electronics, Apple Affected

The ongoing global semiconductor shortage is affecting the IT and electronics industries.

The ongoing global semiconductor shortage is affecting the IT and electronics industries as well as automotive. Some companies are failing to produce their major products, and the debut of some products is being postponed.

For example, Apple is considering reducing its iPhone 13 production volume for this year by up to 10 million units. Earlier, Apple decided to produce 90 million units of the product this year. However, Texas Instruments and Broadcom are failing to supply sufficient chips for the phone these days.

Texas Instruments and Broadcom supply Apple with display chips and wireless communication chipsets, respectively. The latest iPhone was launched last month and the ongoing situation is likely to affect this year’s sales volume of Apple as a whole.

It is affecting Samsung Electronics as well as Apple. The company released Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in August, the presale attracted no less than 920,000 customers, but the opening of their phones has been postponed twice. In addition, the company is planning to release Galaxy S21 FE in the second half of this year, but the release may be postponed to next year.
