Samsung Electronics is actively seeking to target the global market with the release of mid to low-priced phones so that it can compete with foreign companies like Xiaomi Technology or Micromax.

According to smartphone news site GSMArena.com on Dec. 10 (local time), Samsung introduced the Galaxy Core Prime to India. The device is sold for 9,380 rupees (165,918 won, US$150.76) on eBay India, and 10,170 rupees (179,921 won, US$163.36) on Amazon.com.

The handset features a quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz and a 4.5" LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, using Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It has a 2 megapixel camera on the front and a 5 megapixel camera on the back, along with a 2000mAh battery.

According to Market research firm IDC, the Korean Android device maker comprised around 24 percent of the Indian smartphone market in the third quarter of this year, which put the company in the top spot.

Micromax, the runner-up with a 20 percent share, is selling smartphones with excellent specs in a similar price range to the Galaxy Core Prime in the Indian market. The Canvas Knight A350, which is fitted with a 16 megapixel camera, a 5" screen, a quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.7 GHz, and a 2350mAh battery, is sold for 13,500 rupees (238,834 won, US$217.06) on Amazon.com.
