According to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA), 3,481 new BMW cars were registered in Korea last month to account for 20.5 percent of the total. So BMW took the top spot for the first time in three months. BMW sold 37,098 cars in the Korean market between January and November this year to represent 20.7 percent of the market and maintain first place.

Second in popularity was Volkswagen, which sold 2,727 cars in November with a market share of 16.1 percent, and 27,812 cars during the 11 months to rank third with a share of 15.5 percent. Audi followed Volkswagen by selling 2,441 cars in November.

Mercedes Benz, which held the foremost place in September and October, sold 2,386 cars last month to rank fourth, with a market share of 14.1 percent. Still, it kept the second place (18.1 percent) in cumulative sales by selling 32,493 cars.

Volkswagen’s Tiguan 2.0 TDI Bluemotion and Passat 2.0 TDI were chosen by 690 and 674 customers last month, respectively. They were followed by the BMW 520d (616 sold), Audi A6 35 TDI (504), and Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI (487).

By fuel type, diesel models were picked by 11,574 customers to account for 68.2 percent of the market. The sales volume of gasoline, hybrid, and electric vehicles was 4,562 (26.9 percent), 795 (4.7 percent), and 28 (0.2 percent).
