In Partnership with TBM of Japan

SKC has teamed up with TBM, a Japanese company, to develop and commercialize biodegradable LIMEX.

SKC is gearing up to commercialize LIMEX, an eco-friendly material that can drastically reduce the use of plastics.

SKC announced on Sept. 16 that it has established SK TBM Geostone, a joint venture with TBM, a Japanese eco-friendly material company that has developed LIMEX.

SK TBM Geostone will conduct research and development to commercialize biodegradable LIMEX in 2023.

The two companies will combine SKC’s biodegradable material technology with TBM’s LIMEX technology to mass produce more advanced, biodegradable LIMEX. LIMEX is made by mixing limestone with general plastic resins such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). It is eco-friendly as its plastic content is low.

Biodegradable LIMEX, which is more advanced than LIMEX, is even more eco-friendly as it is loaded with biodegradable materials PBAT and PLA, which decompose in nature in a short period of time, instead of general plastic resins.

Through this joint venture, SKC will be able to upgrade biodegradable materials to the next level by securing Japan's TBM's unique limestone utilization technology.
