Despite Spread of COVID-19

Samsung Electronics' plant in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam

Samsung Electronics is expanding its recruitment of local employees in Vietnam despite the spread of COVID-19 in the Southeast Asian country.

The company will hire 1,000 production workers for its mobile phone plant in Bac Ninh Province, said local media outlet VN Express on Sept. 12. Earlier last month, its plant in Thai Nguyen also announced a plan to hire 3,000 additional employees.

Samsung Electronics is planning to shift its plants in Vietnam into high gear to ramp up production of the Galaxy Z-Fold and the Z-Flip to 25 million units a year. Samsung Electronics is Vietnam's largest foreign investment company and has six production facilities in Bac Ninh Province, Thai Nguyen Province, and Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition, Samsung Electronics plans to hire 3,000 local engineers to work at a large R&D center scheduled to open in Hanoi in 2022.
