Mini LED TV Shipments Forecast to Soar 10 Times in 2021

Market research firm Omdia reported on Aug. 26 that the global mini LED TV shipments, which were about 0.5 million units last year, are expected to reach 4.9 million units this year and the ratio of mini LED TV shipments to the total TV shipments is expected to jump from 0.02 percent to 2.2 percent.

TCL, the largest TV manufacturer in China and the third-largest in the world, unveiled the world’s first mini LED TV in 2019 and initiated the sale of the product last year. This year, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics released mini LED TVs and the market growth is accelerating.

Samsung Electronics’ first mini LED TV Neo QLED made its debut in March. This product is characterized by its picture quality improved based on the application of quantum mini LEDs, which are just 2.5 percent of existing LED elements in size.

LG Electronics’ first mini LED TV LG QNED was released in South Korea last month. The 86-inch 8K product is equipped with approximately 30,000 mini LED light sources along with the company’s unique high color reproduction technology for picture quality improvement.
