Mobile EV Charging

Seoul City announced on Nov. 24 that it will launch the world’s first mobile charging service for electric vehicles next month. The service is supplied by Powercube, a Korean company with international patents in this field.

The municipal government is going to work with the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to provide 100 charging units for free between December and April next year.

The units will be made available nationwide after a testing period. Eighty of the units will go to EV distribution businesses in the private sector, 10 to EV taxi service providers, and the rest to Seoul City and its offices.

The pay-per-use system is portable, does not require charging station installation, and is cheaper by approximately 6 million won in initial cost than slow chargers.
