KT announced on Nov. 23 that it suggested that Korea, China, and Japan cooperate in communications services at a meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Framework AgreementStrategic Cooperation Framework Agreement (SCFA).

Korea's second-largest mobile carrier discussed ways to promote customer convenience in the South East Asian communications market and to cooperate in new fields like smart energy and Internet of Things (IoT) standards, together with China Mobile and NTT DoCoMo.

KT Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu, China Mobile's Chairman Xi Guohua, and NTT DoCoMo's President and C.E.O. Kaoru Kato attended the SCFA meeting in Hangzhou, China, along with executives from the three companies.

Chairman Hwang suggested trilateral cooperation in developing a mobile transportation card used in the three countries as one of core joint projects for 2015.

If a combined mobile transportation card service is provided in Korea, China, and Japan, which have the largest number of tourists to each other among Asian countries, it is predicted that 900 million customers of the three mobile carriers will be able to enjoy services in a more convenient manner. The number for the three carriers accounts for 25 percent of the total mobile users around the world.

In addition, the three companies have decided to lay a foundation to lead the global communications market through cooperation in future convergence industries such as smart energy and IoT standards.
