Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, LS Industrial Systems and Electronics, and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) are on the list of the Top 100 Global Innovative Organizations reported by Thomson Reuters.

Thomson Reuters, a provider of intelligent information, released “2014 Top 100 Global Innovators” list on Nov. 6, judging them based on patent-related criteria.

Among Top 100 Global Innovators, Asia topped the list by posting 46 companies including 39 Japanese companies, 4 Korean companies, and 2 Thai companies. Chinese company Huawei was put on the list for the first time this year.

Following Asia, North America put the 2nd largest number of innovative corporations on the list. The number decreased to 36 companies from 46 last year. Thirty-five U.S. companies and one Canadian company were named on the list.

In particular, major companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, Google, and Blackberry, which are waging smartphone patent wars, were on this year's list.
