Samsung Electronics’ V1 Line at Hwasung Campus

Samsung Electronics’ state-of-the-art V1 Line at Hwasung Campus still has yield problems, with the yield of some 5-nm products remaining below 50 percent, multiple industry insiders said on July 4.

The V1 Line in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province is the world's first dedicated extreme ultraviolet (EUV) line for production of sub-7-nm semiconductors. Samsung Electronics began to operate the line in February 2020.

The most important determinant of a semiconductor company’s business performance is its yield. In general, a semiconductor producer’s yield has to exceed 95 percent.

Currently, Samsung Electronics is competing with TSMC of Taiwan in sub-5-nm nanometer level of ultra-micro fabrication processes.
