The U.S. Tops the List

South Korea ranks fourth out of 194 countries in this year’s Global Cybersecurity Index of the International Telecommunication Union.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on June 30 that South Korea came in fourth out of 194 countries in this year’s Global Cybersecurity Index of the International Telecommunication Union.

The United States topped the list, the runner-ups are the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia, and Estonia took the third place. South Korea is sharing the same ranking with Singapore and Spain. The fifth are Malaysia, Russia and the United Arab Emirates, and the rest of the top 10 are Lithuania, Japan, Canada, France and India.

The biennial project of the ITU is to compare cybersecurity capabilities and levels of countries. The index consists of the five evaluation categories of law, technology, organization, capability and cooperation. The evaluation is based on each country’s replies to 73 questions and evidential data. This year, South Korea achieved perfect scores in law, capability and cooperation.

In the third index released two years ago, South Korea came in 15th with a score of 87.3. This year, its score rose to 98.52.
