“The first Chinese-Korean Short Film Festival to Share Korean-Chinese Youth Dreams” finished in Bejing, China on October 26. CJ, the company working to be a “Culture Creating Company” according to their motto, hosted the event jointly with the Chinese television broadcaster CCTV.

The festival, which was held at Beijing CGV from Oct. 23 under the slogan “Pursue Your Dream,” focused on locating young new movie directors who will lead the cultural exchange of Korea and China, and build an ecosystem for creative work in the Asian movie industry.

Among the 324 short films made by Chinese youth who dream of becoming a movie director for the event, 32 films were chosen for the competition. These films were shown during the festival.

Xiamo, director of “Snakehead,” won the first prize out of eight films awarded. In addition to a cash prize, the winners now have the chance to participate in a five-day Korean training program in which they can interact with famous Korean directors, producers, and actors.

More than 70 Chinese media entities participated in the opening ceremony of the festival, showing a strong Chinese interest in the film festival. Some representative actors from Korea and China, such as Ahn Seong-gi, the director of the CJ Cultural Foundation, Yoon Eun-hye, the honorary ambassador of the festival, and Qin Hao, attended the festival.

An official at the CJ Group said, “The festival was held as one of the joint programs to nurture talented persons from two countries together with China, which has a large potential for cultural content business with the CJ Group.”
