The Tenth Anniversary

Kang Duk-soo, Chairman of STX Business Group, said that 2010 will be a very critical year for the company as it will celebrate the tenth anniversary since its establishment in 2001. Kang described the corporate plans for 2010 with words like as clearer destinations, well-made maps, strong hulls, and skilled shipmates.

As for the destination for the next 10 years, Kang said the company would achieve sales totaling 100 billion won based on marine transportation, shipbuilding, machinery, plants, and energy, helping to create a strong company immune to any economic fluctuations.

As for the maps, the company’s strategies for the next 10 years, Kang said the company would need to strengthen existing business areas of shipbuilding, machinery, and marine transportation, expand new growth areas such as energy, construction, and plants, and explore markets in undeveloped resource-rich countries. Kang aims to reinforce the Think Tank within the company to achieve these goals.

To fortify the hulls, Kang stressed the needs for an internal system which has not been made over the last decade. And maintaining existing system should be refined more effectively so that all subsidiaries can operate systemically and organically within the Group. Kang also stressed the importance of human development by declaring organizational innovation to provide young professionals opportunities for the future-oriented development.

During his speech, Kang used a metaphor, “a bamboo with strong joints will grow higher without bending” to declare 2010 as the first joint for STX. Kang also presented core strategies for 2010, including new overseas market exploration, strengthened global networks, a management innovation system, core and proprietary technologies, and global human resources. According to Kang, the company will win orders worth 33 trillion won and achieve sales of 25 trillion won.
