Major IT companies are showcasing smart watches, showing a pioneer spirit in the wearable device industry. Most of the recently-introduced wearable devices are smart watches, but an increasing number of wearable devices are being released in the form of necklaces. This phenomenon is due to the fact that necklaces are convenient to wear.

According to industry sources on Oct. 20, the Misfit Shine, which became popular worldwide after its launch in the U.S. in July of last year, is the leader in necklace wearables. The wearable device is 7 mm thick and 27.5 mm in diameter, and thus its coin-like size enables people to wear the device like a necklace. People can clip the device onto a tracksuit, swimsuit, or running shoes as well.

The device calculates the amount of physical activity and exercise, exercise patterns, and the calories consumed in a day. A user only has to place it next to a smartphone after downloading a related app. The wireless activity tracker does not break, since it is made out of aluminum. The device is also waterproof and can therefore be used even when exercising in the water.

The Gear Circle, which is scheduled to be rolled out this month, is a necklace wearable device. The device can sync with the Gear S via Bluetooth 3.0, making phone conversation and listening to music more convenient. The 180mAh battery makes it possible to last 300 hours on standby. In addition, the device allows people to speak on the phone for 11 hours and play music for 9 hours. The device comes in white, black, and blue-black.

The necklace wearable device provides an intuitive usage, as users can receive a phone call by separating the necklace’s magnetic sensor clasp. The device also provides voice information through the Gear manager.

In addition to necklaces, there are also ring devices being developed. UzBrainNet introduced a wearable ring device called the Motion Ring. Since it can recognize finger movement, users can operate various devices using their index fingers with the device on.

As the device uses a wireless communications module and a location recognition sensor, it is possible to change TV channels, adjust volume, operate a remote shutter for smartphone cameras, and play online shooting games by the movement of an index finger. The device can be used for presentation, and it can also be used as a web browser or a media player.

Ringly, which is going to be introduced soon, is a ring that notifies the wearer of a call or text through a combination of vibration and light. It vibrates with four different vibration patterns and flashes in five different colors. It is compatible with social networking services as well. To use the notification service, users should install its app and select vibration patterns and colors. Users can be alerted to texts, calls, reminders, e-mail, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Vine, Tumblr, and Snapchat.
