Photovoltaic system supplier Hanvit DNS (CEO Lee Hyun-hwa) announced on Oct. 20 that it recently participated in the completion ceremonies for 40 kW-capacity solar power facilities for three schools in Cambodia.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) project that had kicked off in April this year was sponsored by Korea Southern Power and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). Hanvit DNS designed, built and supervised the construction of the facilities, while providing technical assistance and education on alternative energy. S-Energy and DASS Tech donated the modules and inverters, respectively.

The first location was an elementary school located in Mondol Kiri Province. Photovoltaic generators and ceiling lamps were installed before the equipment donation ceremony held on Oct. 14, so that the 50 or so students at the remote school could benefit from light. The facility is located about a seven to eight hour drive away from Phnom Penh.

Two days later, the solar power equipment and laptop computer donation ceremony took place at a high school one hour's drive away from the capital city. The Vice Minister of Education of Cambodia attended the ceremony for the donation of grid-connected 15 kW facilities. On Oct. 17, rooftop power generators were donated to the University of Puthisastra with the Vice Minister of Mining Industry and Energy of Cambodia present.

“Our efforts in Cambodia have been well-received by not only the students and school staff, but also the government,” said the Hanvit DNS CEO, adding, “We will continue expanding our alternative energy projects in less-developed countries down the road.”
