An Annual Event for R&D Funding & Coordination

This year’s Korea Eureka Day took place online on May 19. Hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the biggest technical cooperation and networking event between South Korea and Europe that celebrated its 12th anniversary this year was joined by 87 South Korean industrial and academic research institutes and 438 enterprises, research institutes and colleges located in 65 countries.

Eureka is an intergovernmental organization for R&D funding and coordination. It currently has 49 member states and South Korea became an associate member in 2009.

The main topics of this year’s event are green and digital transformation and the era after COVID-19. A total of 430 one-to-one online meetings took place along with idea pitching, B2B matchmaking and technical cooperation seminars covering green, hydrogen and digital economies.

The ministry is planning to provide free follow-up consulting services for six months for B2B matchmaking participants so that the technical matching at this year’s event can become more successful. In addition, it will provide up to 20 billion won for three years for R&D projects of selected South Korean companies technically cooperating with European partners.
