Incheon International Airport has been voted the best airport in the world several years in a row.

Incheon Solidarity for Peace and Participation, a civic organization in Incheon City, criticized the inauguration of former Changwon City mayor Park Wan-soo as the president of the Incheon International Airport Corporation as a parachute appointment.

Park Wan-soo, former mayor of Changwon City and new president of the Incheon International Airport Corporation.“The central government and the Incheon International Airport Corporation Executive Recommendation Committee had clarified the exclusion of politicians and bureaucrats earlier in June, but it turned out that the principle was completely ignored in the end,” it said.

The civic organization criticized the move by saying, “The nomination of the pro-Park Geun-hye figure took just two weeks, without any qualification procedure, while the former presidents had had to wait for an average of 45 days for their appointments.”

It continued, “The government is ignoring public opinion that the corporation needs a professional manager, and is repeating its mistake yet again after the nomination of a former Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency [leader] as the president of the corporation.”
