Domestic Sales and Exports Suffer a Drop

Automakers' sales at home and abroad dropped in April mainly due to the ongoing automotive chip shortage.

Hyundai Motor Group, GM Korea, Renault Samsung Motors and SsangYong Motor sold 630,691 cars at home and abroad last month, down 6.8 percent from the previous month.

Their domestic sales volume fell 3.8 percent to 135,601 and their overseas sales volume fell 7.6 percent to 495,090 mainly due to the ongoing automotive chip shortage.

Hyundai Motor Co.’s sell-through decreased 8.6 percent to 345,777. That of Kia fell 1.3 percent to 249,734. The figures of GM Korea and SsangYong Motor dropped 27.6 percent and 38.7 percent to 21,455 and 4,381, respectively.

On the other hand, Renault Samsung’s sell-through increased 9 percent to 9,344, led by an increase in XM3 exports. Still, the figure dropped 28.6 percent from a year earlier.
