Combining K-pop Stars with Mixed Reality Technologies

Digital human content of the K-pop idol group Weekly released by SK Telecom through its Jump AR platform

SK Telecom announced on April 29 that it has launched the K-pop Metaverse Project that utilizes mixed reality technology with next-generation K-pop stars.

The company plans to expand K-pop culture to the mixed virtual reality world through various attempts, ranging from AR digital human content of various K-pop stars to Metaverse-based music video production and concerts.

As the first part of the project, SK Telecom produced digital human content of the idol group Weekly and unveiled it through its augmented reality application platform Jump AR. Jump AR's digital human content shows various aspects of stars or celebrities. Fans can enjoy it anywhere. SK Telecom has produced digital human content of the dance movements of Weekly's popular song "After School," allowing fans to make a music video of their own.

A digitalized Weekly will come forward at a non-face-to-face live fan meeting on May 2. SK Telecom produced an After School music video in a Metaverse format that combines virtual reality and physical reality and released it on the official YouTube channel of K-pop's flagship media 1theK. The company is also preparing to hold concerts or fan meetings of K-pop stars such as Weekly in Metaverse space in Jump Virtual Meetup in the future.

SK Telecom recently changed MR Service CO to Metaverse CO. With the advent of the Metaverse, the company plans to expand the provision of mixed reality experiences centered on Metaverse.
