The labor union of Korean Air announced on Sept. 30 that it has submitted a petition to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport calling for a prompt administrative measure about Asiana Airlines’ San Francisco Airport accident.

“No administrative disposition has been carried out, even though the National Transport Safety Board of the United States officially announced in June that the accident was because of the pilot’s fault,” a union representative said, adding, “Concerns are on the rise about the delay and the possibility of any lobbying activity.”

It continued, “During the Korean Air accident back in the 1990s, the government punished Korean Air in various ways including a retroactive application, and we are inevitably dubious about the government’s administrative consistency and clarity.”

The union also stressed that a penalty imposition for the grave accident should not be condoned, because money cannot be a solution to the loss of lives.

“The government administration has to be based on clear principles so that the people can accept it with the aftereffect of the Sewol Ferry disaster still lingering,” it added.
