SmartThings Find to Be Upgraded Next Week

SmartThings Find service

Samsung Electronics announced on April 20 that it will upgrade its SmartThings Find service next week.

Launched globally in October 2020, the location information service helps customers locate their missing Galaxy devices quickly and easily. It uses bluetooth low energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technologies, and more than 70 million devices are currently registered with it.

If the app is updated this time, functions such as finding nearby tags through Bixby calls and finding unknown tags around will be provided, further enhancing security and convenience for users.

Users can easily find products by calling the name of a smart tag registered on SmartThings Find by using the Bixby Service. For example, if you want to find your bicycle with a smart tag after registering it as Bike, you can say "Hi Bixby, where is my bike?" and its location information will appear on the map of your smartphone.

In addition, executing a nearby unknown tag finding function prevents location tracking through smart tags attached to an object without a user's consent by detecting and informing smart tags which were not registered by the user but move together along the user's location without the user's consent.

Meanwhile, in order to protect the data of SmartThingsFind users, data utilized in the localization process are encrypted through arbitrary personal IDs that change every 15 minutes, and the device location information is not displayed to others.

In order to use SmartThings Find, users can access SmartThings App and use it through simple registration procedures. Compatible devices include Galaxy smartphones, tablets, smart watches, earbuds and smart tags.
