Apple sold more than 10 million units of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus worldwide during the first weekend after the launch, achieving its highest-ever first weekend result. “The sales of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus during the first weekend went beyond all of our expectations,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook on Sept. 22 (local time).

This is the first time for Apple to sell over 10 million units of new products for three days following the launch. When the iPhone 5S and 5C were released last year, a total of 9 million units were sold during the first weekend. Tim Cook remarked, “We are trying very hard to absorb the increasing demand as soon as possible.”

On Sept. 19, the two models were introduced to the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, the U.K., Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, and Singapore. Apple is going to sell the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in 20 other countries starting on Sept. 26, and to expand the sale of new handsets to 115 countries worldwide by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is scheduled to hold a media event on Sept. 24 to unveil the Galaxy Note 4 and to sell the new device starting on Sept. 26 in Korea and China. LG Electronics is also said to be considering whether or not to debut the G Pro 3 in the latter half of this year instead of early next year.
