Strong SME Supporter

An event took place to promote the sale of products made by Korean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Thailand through its messaging app LINE, which is rapidly growing in that country.

The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) held a briefing on starting online stores on LINE in Thailand at its head headquarters in Seoul on Sept. 19. The event was aimed at recruiting local SMEs with the intention to enter Thailand's consumer market using the distribution networks of LINE Plus Corporation, a local IT enterprise running the Korean mobile messaging platform.

Last July, LINE officially introduced a mobile shopping app to Thailand. The number of downloads of the app has exceeded 1 million cases, only two months after its release.

Line has around 30 million subscribers in the country, and 2 million people are becoming new members each month.

At the event, representatives of 45 local SMEs consulted with Thai merchandisers of Line's mobile shopping malls about selling their products.
