Remote Management

The Hyundai Motor Group is striving to improve business efficiency by making use of information and communications technology (ICT). The group has recently set up a videoconferencing system for remotely monitoring all 16 of the manufacturing plants of Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors worldwide. The system was supplied by a Korean venture firm that is a subsidiary of Cisco.

According to network equipment industry experts, approximately 100 billion won is required for the overall connection. However, the new system allows only specific sections to be watched, instead of transmitting and receiving all images in real time, so that traffic can be reduced and the cost can be lowered to 700 million won or so.

The Hyundai Motor Group’s efforts for ICT-based business efficiency enhancement have continued all the way since 2010. It adopted a remote vehicle maintenance assistance system at 23 directly-managed service centers in 2011 and has expanded the system to 1,410 centers nationwide since 2012.

More recently, a real-time data sharing system has been established between Kia Motors’ Global QC Center, the Namyang Research Institute, and auto parts suppliers in partnership in the interest of better quality control during the product development and mass production stages.
