Sends ITTs to Shippers to Join in North Field Project

Qatar Petroleum has recently sent invitations to tender to shipping companies to participate in the North Field Project.

Qatar Petroleum, the state-run oil company of Qatar, recently sent invitations to tender to shipping companies to participate in the North Field Project.

Qatar, which is the largest LNG producer in the world, is increasing the output of the North Field gas field and expanding its export bases in line with an increase in LNG demand. The country is planning to increase its LNG production capacity from 77 million tons to 126 million tons by 2027.

The invited shipping companies are required to send their propositions, including vessel specifications, within a month.

In June last year, Qatar Petroleum signed LNG ship building slot contracts for more than 100 vessels with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Samsung Heavy Industries and Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering. At that time, Qatar Petroleum CEO Saad Sherida al-Kaabi mentioned the possibility of the largest LNG ship order in history while reserving up to 150 slots in South Korea and China.
