Korean language schools in the U.S., established for foreign Koreans residing abroad, are getting popular with the locals.

According to the Korean Education Center in New York on the weekend of Sept. 6, many locals have enrolled in Korean language schools that are located on the east coast of the U.S. in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

Korean language schools in the U.S., the majority of which use classrooms at local public schools, have two semesters, with each semester lasting from 12 to 15 weeks. Three to four hours of classes are held every week.

The primary curriculum of these Korean language schools are the history and culture of Korea based in the Korean language. Each level is divided by age and grade.

More and more locals have registered their children for these Korean language schools, largely due to the effects of Hallyu fever and the efforts of Koreans to include the Korean language in the regular school curriculum as one of the regular second language courses in U.S. schools.
